Hamlet
An interesting story to recreate, it has been noted that the storyline of Hamlet was one of the contributing stories when the writers made the Disney movie The Lion King.
Hamlet is one of Shakespeare's tragedy plays, focused on Prince Hamlet. After his father's death, Hamlet's mother remarries; the ghost of his father tells Hamlet that his new stepfather was the one that poisoned him. Hamlet vows to get revenge, and in the meantime murders someone else, adding to the cycle of revenge. Ultimately a duel takes place and ends with the death of Hamlet, his mother, stepfather and the man seeking revenge on Hamlet. (Alchin)
The Lion King is a story about Simba, the son of King Musafa who was killed. Simba's uncle convinces him that he was responsible for his father's death and leads to Simba's exile. While he was in exile he was persuaded to forget about his old way of life and worries by his new friends Timon and Pumbaa. He later reunites with an old friend Nala, who convinces him to confront his uncle Scar. At the end of the play Scar falls off a cliff leaving Simba as the ruler. ("Hamlet and the Lion King")
While this adaptation isn't quite so obvious as Twelfth Night, there are still common themes seen in both movie and play, such as the guilt a son feels after the death of their father, and the need for revenge. The Lion King is admittedly a much happier version of the play. It is easier to see some of the similarities when you compare the characters:
(Lion King/Hamlet)
Simba - Hamlet
Musafa - Old Hamlet
Scar - Claudius
Sarabi - Gertrude
Nala - Ophelia
Timon and Pumbaa - Rosencrantz and Guildenstern
