Othello
Othello is another tragedy, focused on the military general Othello and his best friend, Iago. Othello promotes Michael Cassio to lieutenant and Iago is jealous because of it. He comes up with a plan to play on Othello's insecurities about his wife Desdemona to eventually drive him mad. Iago convinces Othello that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio, which leads to Othello murdering Desdemona, only to immediately be proven her innocense by Iago's wife, Emilia. Iago kills his wife, and Othello tries to kill Iago, and then Othello kills himself. (Alchin)
In 2001, the film O was released as once again, a high school setting for the adaptation of Shakespeare's play. Odin is the only black student at the school, and is the star of the school's basketball team. Hugo is the basketball coaches son, Roger is his best friend, and Cassio is another basketball player who is friends with Odin. Desi is Odin's girlfriend, and also the dean's daughter. In much the same fashion as Othello, Hugo convinces Odin that Desi is cheating on him with Cassio, until tragedy happens and Emily, Hugo's girlfriend, reveals the lies. ("O [film]")
