The Taming of the Shrew
T Taming of the Shrew is the story of two sisters, Bianca and Katharina. Bianca is the younger of the sisters, known as the "beautiful and gentle Bianca" while her sister Katharina is known as the shrew that no man will want. Bianca is not allowed to marry until her sister does. Bianca's admirers then pay Petruchio to court and marry Katharina. Petruchio uses whatever means he can to get Katharina into submission until she is tamed. Bianca then marries Lucentio and both women are looked at as examples of wifely submission to their husbands. (Alchin)
In 10 Things I Hate About You, it is much the same scenario set in a high school setting. Bianca is the younger, prettier, more popular sister whereas Kat is the older feminist shrew who refuses to date. The girls father states Bianca cannot date until Kat can, so Bianca's admirer Cameron pays Patrick Verona to take Kat out so that Bianca might date. (Baffa)
A clear way to see the similarities in the stories is to look at the characters in the play lined up with their counterpart in the movie
